Our Autumn concert this year features music by composers who share the anniversary of their birth or death with the year 2018.
Jacob Arcadelt’s almost unknown mass setting – Missa de Beata Virgine is the mainstay of the first half with other lighter pieces.
The second half is centred around Claude Debussy’s only part songs – Trois Chansons de Charles d’Orléans -a sublime set of impressionist pieces which contrast with the Englishness of Parry’s iconic “I was glad” and his beautiful “Songs of Farewell”.
There are also miniatures by Gounod and Rossini to round off the programme.
Today’s conductor is Stuart McIntosh, who is directing the choir whilst Clifford Lister has a sabbatical term.
